Jobs, Budget and Debt Ceiling Debated in Washington
This past week has been one of mixed economic indicators. On Wednesday, Pres. Obama met separately with the House GOP members and then held talks with House Democrats the following day. Both groups said they found the meetings “productive.” On Friday, a key government measure on the nation’s jobs situation reported that the U.S. unemployment rate for May moved up to 9.1% percent. In Washington, Committees met to discuss different aspects of government programs affecting the economy. Lawmakers looked into the Fed’s lending practices and the process for small business loans. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner also met with House freshman on the deficit and debt ceiling.
